The event brought together leaders in the healthcare industry to discuss telemedicine policy, strategy, and action. In his session, D’Orazio discussed the hype behind telemedicine, its role in delivering care, and how to measure its success.
“Right now, we are witnessing perhaps the most dynamic era in U.S. healthcare,” said D’Orazio. “At the nexus of this industry-wide transformation lies two powerful forces – payment reform and delivery reform. Telemedicine is high on the list of potential solutions that can drive change in both the financing and delivery of care. We recently conducted a survey of healthcare executives that found only about half of healthcare organizations have adopted telemedicine, though nearly nine in 10 say it is a priority. Further, the survey findings showed that telemedicine will supplement, but not replace, current care delivery methods in the near-term – though the large majority of respondents believe telemedicine has the potential to completely transform the standard of care for behavioral health and other areas of care.”
