Sage Growth Partners Leads Population Health Workshop for Startups at MedCity Invest

Panel worked with select startup companies to incorporate population health concepts

Baltimore, MD – May 12, 2016 – Sage Growth Partners (SGP), a Baltimore-based healthcare strategy, technology and marketing firm today announced that members of its leadership team led a workshop with the Jefferson College of Public Health at MedCity Invest, held in Chicago from April 12-13. MedCity Invest is a leading national healthcare investing conference based in the Midwest. Each year the event draws investors and business development executives to highlight opportunities with promising healthcare industry startups.

The session, Startup Workshop: Design a Product with Population Health in Mind, was moderated by Veneeth Iyengar, SGP Vice President of Strategic Ventures and Business Development. The speaker panel included Stephanie Kovalick, SGP Chief Strategy Officer; Alexis Skoufalos, Jefferson School of Population Health Associate Dean; Garrett Vygantas, M.D., Jump Capital Partner; and John Ferry, Oxeon Partners Senior Associate.

Select startup companies worked with the panelists to consider population health in their products and processes, with the goal of maximizing reimbursement and higher profits. Startups gave short pitches followed by a question and answer period, and were assessed on five areas: their ability to connect information to stakeholders, improve quality at the point of care, improve the patient care experience, avoid readmissions, unnecessary visits and services, and overall transform the delivery of care. Participating startups included Apervita, MDInsider, Village Plan, Intellivisit, and Medical Memory.

“Population health is one of the fastest growing sub-segments of healthcare investing in the country,” said Veneeth Iyengar, Vice President of Strategic Ventures and Business Development for SGP. “Part of the fuel driving this growth is the rapid industrialization of healthcare. There is a need for healthcare executives and investors to invest in companies that are at the forefront of solving critical challenges that will shift the power of healthcare to consumers.”
