The Medicaid Maternity Cliff: How Health Plans Can Support Members Amid Widespread Coverage Loss

By Sage Growth | May 5, 2026

Sage Growth Partners’ survey of 50 health plan leaders and 300 pregnant or recently pregnant women as well as their caregivers spotlights the looming loss of coverage and care disruption from Medicaid redeterminations — including who’s most at risk and how to curb the crisis. More than half of mothers on Medicaid (52%) anticipate losing coverage while 84% of payer leaders expect moderate to severe disruption due to these redeterminations.

Read the new report to find out which members would be most affected, the delayed or avoided prenatal and postpartum care that is likely to result, and the suite of strategies payers have planned to address member fear and uncertainty.

Read the report to learn:

  • The expected severity of Medicaid redeterminations
  • Candid member responses to becoming uninsured or having less access to care
  • Payer leader strategies to bring members back from the brink
  • Which health plans can best navigate the coming disruption
  • And more

62%
